"Pros: The house is perch on top of a high point and if the clouds stay away for a while the views from coast to forest are overwhelming. It's very quiet at night and fireflies come out en mass. The house itself is perfect with great beds and plenty of space. All the facilities are there and sitting outside watching the hummingbirds is a wonderful experience. The garden is great, but do venture beyond that. You can make use of the friendly caretaker to guide you, but we went out for hikes on our own and the trails can be done solo. Some trails are steep though so take a stick of some sort if you are descending. our host Jan helped us with some maps and GPS files for the trails. Really helpful and pleasant people! I wish we could have stayed longer, because we weren't done exploring the Refugio when we left. Cons: There is a powerline which buzzes quite a lot when the clouds come in, but this is not a big issue really." ~B.
