"Pros: The location of this place is brilliant, close to airport without much noise, peaceful area, permanent breeze due to being on a hill, close to Chania for evenings out or daytime visits, and close enough to visit Rethymnon (1 hour) for a day. We of course drive to all the other famous north western and south western beaches & lagoons. There are 2 flats next to each other, there will be 2 more above these but the decorations aren't finished for the top floor so it was very peaceful. The appartment is spacious, clean and new (perfect for us but not luxury). Beautiful view of the sea, mountains & sunset. Big glasses & mugs were a plus. Coded entrance to the building. Plenty of free parking available along unbuilt plots of land. Aircon is in the lounge but not in the bedroom. 2 minutes by car to small supermarkets, pharmacy and at least 2 "open all day" restaurants (Irenes is great, we didn't try the grill). We have travelled to many different Cretian beaches over the years, we found 2 local beaches very close (by car) which have soft, white sand & even on big wave days (along the north coast) these BLUE FLAG beaches (agios) (Onoufrios & Kalathas) are in coves where the water stayed flat enough and warm. No steep descent to get in the water and quiet even in July. Onoufrios beach has a chair for wheelchair users to slide into the sea. Both have lifeguards. The prettier beach, the sunbeds were far more expensive on Kalathas beach, so we advise to go to the beach at 15h, swim in the sea & take a sunbed when the guy finished work at 17h. Personally, we found this our best location to stay and we will happily return.
Cons: As someone mentionned previously, finding the appartment was a little bit difficult at first because several GPS apps, couldn't work close to the airport and we went around in circles. Away from the airport google maps started to work fortunately. Forget WAZE for this, it didn't work. Print out Blue View's location on Google Earth. The good news is that our GPS apps work everywhere else on the island. Someone also mentioned the wifi quality previously. The host (who lives in the building next to the rental building) gave us 2 wifi connections, one works best in the bedroom & the other in the other areas. In general the wifi was good (we have to accept that they probably don't have fibre connections on a newly built on area of the hill). Sometimes it was very slow, especially on our laptops, but faster on our smartphones, my husband got frustrated but as we were on holiday & not reliant on working over the internet, it didn't bother me too much. As with most rental properties, there was definately a need for a good mirror in the lounge area, where a woman can get dressed & do her hair & makeup (without sweating in a hot bedroom) whilst her husband is in the bathroom. For this purpose there lacked a piece of furniture in the lounge for putting my jewelry, makeup, hair stuff and creams and other bits of equipment, so we bought a cheap shelf thing from Lidl for this purpose.
Kitchen equipement was standard for holiday rentals. Would have liked a pair of scissors (I always bring my own scissors and sharp knives).
I wouldn't recommend this place if you don't have a car or don't like walking. In summer it would be too hot for me to walk to the restaurant & supermarkets. You definately need a car for going to Lidl & to get to the sandy beaches. Personally, we loved the peace, sunset and breezy wind of this location.
We didn't even try the pool." ~Sarah
