"Pros: Stunning beach, lovely and quaint simple bungalows, outdoor showers, great snorkelling spot! Cons: Open nature of the bungalows allows for noise travel. There is no access to restaurants and the food available at the accom is very expensive for local food and requires solid planning" ~Catherine

"Pros: Stayed here for 4 nights in total. Room was lovely and equipped with everything you need. We loved our room with a terrace. Everything was in great condition as the hotel is fairly new. Amazing infinity pool overlooking the sea. We enjoyed walking along the beach and exploring although the beach is very rocky so you need proper shoes. Hotel managers were nice and always open to have a chat. Miranda was lovely to speak to. Restaurant staff were nice too, especially Adrianos, Desi, Hermino. Although staff, apart from Adrianos, could have a bit more initiative or be a little more enthusiastic, but many of them are new to hospitality so I'm sure they'll get there! Eliana is the perfect place if you are looking to just slow down and relax! If you come to Rote, I would recommend adding a stop here! Cons: Breakfast was a let down. They advertise diverse breakfast options on the website, including a variety of fresh fruits and the reality was that they only had a very poor selection of pastries and cereal and the a la carte menu wasn't great either and lacked ingredients stated on the menu. They even didn't have/offered any fresh fruit, I had to ask for it and they only had one choice. For a hotel of this category the breakfast was one of the worst we have ever had. They said some fruits were not in season, however, a different hotel was able to offer them. A sugary highly-processed breakfast is not how I wish to start my day! The pool was slippery as it had some kind of algae inside and on the pool stairs. The cushions from the pool chairs and towels were removed because of the rain but when it was sunny they forgot to put them back and we had to ask for them. Pool bar not opened. On the website they advertise all kind of activities during both the wet and dry season, however, they were only able to offer us boat trip in a lagoon, so there wasn't much to do and again, they shouldn't advertise things they can't offer as it's a bit misleading. To get to Rote you need to buy ferry tickets and the ferry app doesn't accept international payment methods. The hotel got them for us and I asked what the price would be beforehand but they didn't answer my question. When we received the invoice, we had been charged more than what the ferry tickets costed. I enquired about the extra charge and they just said "administration costs". It takes one minute to book the tickets and they get issued online so what costs? The other hotel we stayed in happily helped us get the return tickets and didn't charge us extra. Evreything was a bit overpriced at Eliana. Path were the beach is is dirty, full of cigarrette packets from the Eliana builders and they seat on the stairs in the evenings smoking." ~Laura

"Pros: Beautiful accomodation in Rote. I would really recommend staying here if you are looking to relax and enjoy this piece of paradise. Out of the two hotels we stayed while in Rote, this was our favourite! The rooms are basic but who needs any luxury when you have the most amazing and peaceful view from the room deck and even from the bed. The breakfast was delicious and the homemade dinners we had were all tasty too. We skipped lunch as breakfast was filling enough and they only had a couple of options to choose from for meals every day but none of the meals disappointed! We loved having dinner while watching the beautiful sunset as local surfers caught the last waves of the day. All the staff members were lovely. Starting with Carla, who answered all my questions before arriving in Rote. While she was not in Boa Vida when we stayed there, she made sure to look after us through Booking.com. She is so kind and friendly and would have loved to meet her! Tania was also very nice and friendly and we loved chatting with her. She helped us arrange activities and made sure we were having a good stay. And all the ladies from the kitchen were lovely too. There was no one else staying in Boa Vida while we were there as it was the low season and although it felt quiet, it also felt like a privilege having this whole paradise to ourselves. Cons: No wifi in the rooms/restaurant area, only in the rest area. And we barely had any phone signal. We were provided with a portable WiFi for our room but the connection wasn’t great. However, this wasn’t a big issue. There was also no AC in the room, just a fan, so during the night as we had to close the mosquito net it was really hot and stuffy. There were lots of mosquitos and bugs in the room so we ended up with a lot of insect bites but you’re in nature after all! They kindly offered us to sleep in a room that had AC when we had a couple of nights left which we used one night and which we appreciated. This was a nice gesture! No hot water in the shower, but you soon get used to it and after being in the heat it actually feels nice to have a cold shower! The beach where the hotel is was sadly a bit dirty. They’re building Nihi hotel right next to Boa Vida and the builders from Nihi seem to be throwing rubbish and plastic bottles in the sand :( Hopefully they will clean it all up once they’re done building but it looks like they won’t be finishing the construction anytime soon. Despite this, our stay was 10/10! Would definitely stay again if visiting Rote and would recommend anyone visiting Rote to stay here (:" ~Laura
