"Pros: Idyllically located and very well presented. The apartment was charming, well equipped, and impeccably clean.
The detailing was astute - including freshly cut flowers and bottles of Tollhof's own wine and delicious apple juice.
The bathroom was great, with a very high pressure shower.
The balcony was spacious and invaluable to appreciating the setting.
The garden was a small paradise set amongst the most perfect Alto Adige background.
The views of the city from nearby vantage points seemed unbeatable.
The surrounding hillside is dark and silent at night, yet the centre of Bolzano is just 10-15 minutes away by car or 45 minutes away by foot.
Maria Luise was welcoming, polite, and very informative. Easy access to exhaustive printed information about touring the local area.
Cons: The WiFi was unreliable, which made it difficult to do work.
Foam mattresses are not everybody's cup of tea.
It would have been nice if more basic amenities were included at this price - e.g. salt and pepper were included, but tea and coffee were not.
This is the first place where we've been billed separately for cleaning. Unsure why it's not included in the room rate.
Make sure to follow the driving directions that the family give. We didn't - our phones died en route - so we endured an exhilarating late-evening drive up the steep, narrow, and unlit Via Rafenstein. You must approach from the SP99, not the SS508."

"Pros: We needed a room in this very particular location, next to our relative who lives in Bolzano, and this one was just right for us from the location standpoint. If the location is less crucial for you, you may consider other places, because this one is in a very residential area, about 20min easy walk to downtown Bolzano. If you want to be in downtown, this may not work so well, but for us, the location was perfect
Cons: The apartment is listed as a "one bedroom". Strictly speaking, this is a "studio", where everything is in one room: bedroom, kitchen, just the bathroom is separate. Using the "one bedroom" term to describe it may lead to wrong expectations, particularly with US travelers. The check-ip process involves opening a link on your phone, which then allows you to open the doors, and collect the keys. With many doors, including the garage gate (which the phone app does not open, it requires the physical key), this felt a bit too much effort for the result. A simple lockbox with a code would accomplish all this with far less hassle."
