"Pros: The Alchemist Retreat is a superb studio dwelling tucked behind a stately residence in Carterton. The interior is done in a french style and has been finished with considerable attention to detail. Loved the fact there was no TV so we played some LPs from the collection. The location is an easy walk to town but there is a daairy across the road if you need something in a hurry. Carterton is a good place to base yourself to explore the Wairarapa. Its cheaper than Greytown and Martinborough but only a short drive to both. Cons: It rained most days we were there so the beautiful rock lined lime path between the parking space and the house flooded a bit. The studio is quite compact (ie narrow space each side of the bed) but the quality of the furniture and fittings made up for this." ~Craig
