"Pros: The property is beautiful, full of animals and fruiting trees that leave an incredible aroma all over. The views are beautiful and location is perfect. There’s a communal kitchen with fresh fruit from the property everyday. Cons: Only cold water in the shower, which was not stated anywhere upon booking (we were bamboozled). We asked the staff and she said only some cabins had hot water (so avoid malinche) And since the cabins are made of bamboo and net the wind blows right in during that cold shower 🙈🥶 we did not like that. Otherwise everything else was great, we’d come back and stay here again, of course though only with the promise of a warm shower." ~Mai

"Pros: We weren’t sure which part of the island to stay in before our trip, but Balgue turned out to be the perfect choice. It’s lively and serene at the same time, with a great mix of cafés, restaurants, and activities nearby. The hotel itself has a beautiful garden and an amazing breakfast menu (we didn’t try the lunch options). I could honestly drink one of those Funky Monkeys every day! The staff were incredibly helpful, especially the guy at the reception. You can also rent scooters or ATVs directly at the hotel, and in our case, it was even cheaper than in Moyogalpa. Cons: While we really enjoyed everything outside the room, the room itself was a bit of a letdown. It was quite small, and there was a persistent unpleasant smell coming from the toilet cabin. And since the cabin is not properly separated from the rest of the room, that smell is pretty hard to ignore. But for me, the worst part was the shower. It only has warm—or sometimes hot—water. And after an 8-hour hike in 30-degree heat, that’s really not what I was looking for..." ~Alpan
