"Pros: Portofino Homestay was amazing. Mareeya was an incredible host who went above and beyond to welcome us into her space. For example both nights we stayed Mareeya asked what we would like for dinner and she would go to the local market to buy fresh ingredients, best food we’ve had in the Philippines! I have a severe peanut allergy and Mareeya made me feel very comfortable when eating, as she cooked all our food from scratch and was really aware of the impact of my allergy, which can be rare in Asia. Breakfast was also amazing, loads to choose from and again made fresh just for us, all home cooked. The pictures don’t do the beauty of the space justice, such a nice location and homely feel. You can rent a scooter directly from here and ride around southern Leyte. If you are coming to this area for whale shark watching in Padre Burgos, you can stay here and access the dive resorts on the bike Mareeya rents (it’s not too far, about 15 mins). We didn’t know this and we booked to stay at the dive resort where we were doing the whale shark trip, but wish we didn’t! If we had known, we would have spent the whole time at Mareeyas place. The room was relatively basic but had everything you would need and was clean. The view from the room was also incredible, directly out to the ocean. Cons: That we didnt know we could stay here and still access diving trips!!! There is a table and chairs on the balcony of the room, but if I was being picky, comfier furniture to lounge about on whilst looking and the ocean reading with a coffee in the morning would be ideal, the bamboo furniture (whilst authentic Filipino!) is just not great for being comfy!
