In the 50s (of the last century) various hotel constructions were launched in Cuba with the aim of creating prestigious properties; beach facilities for US-tourism of those days, often with functions like a casino. This was exactly the plan for the Colony Hotel. The architecture of the two-storey complex might remind of the fifties, however today, the main reason to stay here is not the gambling, but the diving. The International Diving Center Marina Colony is just 5 minutes away by bus. The spacious and open complex features a swimming pool with sun terrace - positioned in a garden and located at sea, or better said at the Bay of Siguanea. The majority of the hotel guests share a passion for scuba diving. To be honest, given the remote location (42 km from the city of Nueva Gerona) further entertainment and activities outside the bar, lobby and restaurant are limited. But the sunsets are fabulous. Hotel Colony can best be described as an unpretentious accommodation with subservient staff, providing shelter to avid divers looking for a still pristine and affordable underwater world in the Caribbean Sea. That in itself is very exclusive.
